Kufri Tourism: Best Places to Visit in and around Kufri - Sterling Holidays

MAHASU PEAK This is the highest point in Kufri, so great views are a given—on a clear day you can even see the Badrinath and Kedarnath ranges—but the best way to do it is by undertaking the challenging hike through a thick forest of deodar and spruce up to the summit. During ski season, the Mahasu ridge is a great spot for beginners to practice before hitting the rougher slopes. Make a pit-stop at the Nag Devta temple (the Snake God is Kufri's local deity) when you get to the top.

KUFRI FUN WORLD Kufri Fun World is an amusement park featuring a number of joyrides for kids, and the world's highest go-kart track—which includes the adults in all the fun. There is also a canteen here that serves a range of local and international food. One can get to the park by scaling the Mahasu Peak on foot or riding a mule up to the park

FAGU Located between two valleys and surrounded by apple orchards, Fagu is ideal for skiing in the winter months, and makes a great spot for a picnic during the summer. Just six km ahead of Kufri, this little village overlooks the Giri valley and has a tourist bungalow perched right at the top. Those who want to pack in a little more activity can undertake the three-km-long trek till Chharabra, while others can enjoy short yak and pony rides enroute.

HIMALAYAN NATIONAL PARK Sprawled across 90 hectares and comprising of a diverse range of western Himalayan flora and fauna, the Himalayan Nature Park (also referred to as the Kufri National Park) is home to a large variety of animals and over 180 species of birds, and is one of the biggest draws for tourists visiting the area. Apart from cat sightings, you can also expect to see hangul (Kashmir stag), kakar (barking deer), musk deer, brown bear and Asiatic black bear.

INDIRA TOURIST PARK After the Himalayan National Park,do take a break and visit the Indira Tourist Park for a refreshing break. You can spot a number of exotic birds here or you could even go for horse-riding & yak-riding. This place also houses a beer bar and a video games parlour controlled by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

TREKKING IN CHAIL Chail is an hour drive from Kufri. On your way, you will find yourself winding through beautiful oak and pine forests. The Maharaja of Patiala used Chail as his summer retreat. Chail is considered a walkers paradise with a dozen trek routes leading out of Chail to Choor Peak, Shimla and other Himalayan areas.

TOBOGANNING Tobogganing is a modified form of sledging where simple sledges are ridden directly down the snowy peaks. Usually two or more people can accommodate in one toboggan. This is a relatively new winter sport in India though it's popular around the world. Tobogganing is on at Kufri from April to June and from September to February. Give it a shot!

BHIMA KALI MATA TEMPLE The jai Bhima Kali Mata temple is located just at the beginning of the main road from where the hill station of Kufri starts. This temple is recognized as a highly sacred place and is popular among both the locals and the tourists. The main attraction inside this temple is a pond which is regarded as a sacred place. The pond is located within the temple premise and is named as Kupher. Another important religious place in Kufri is the Shri DurgaMandir.
