Niligiri Biosphere Reserve An initiative of the Coimbatore Zoological Park Society, this park was established in 1986 to conserve and protect the diversity of the Western Ghats. Thirty years later, it has grown to be a home to over 430 species of plants with 85 endangered species. The park also hosts 100 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 18 species of mammals and over 300 species of invertebrates. If you’re on the lookout for a wildlife adventure, this place will do the trick.
VELLIANGIRI HILLS Velliangiri is a part of the Nilgiri biosphere in the Western Ghats that touches Coimbatore. It is also known as the ‘Thenkailayam – the Kailash od south’. Lot of devotees worship lord Shiva at the shrine on the top of the mountain. The experience of trekking this mountain is beautiful and at the same time spiritual.
Aliyar Reservoir At around 70 kms drive from Anaikatti, the Aliyar Reservoir of Pollachi town, Coimbatore gifts you scenic views to feast your eyes. The dam offers some ideal getaways including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for your enjoyment.
Marudhamalai Temple Located at around 30 kms. from Anaikatti, the Marudhamalai hill-temple is dedicated to the Hindu God, Murugan. Intrinsic architecture and design are the main draws of this temple which gloriously stands atop a hillock.
PERUR PETISHWAR TEMPLE Perur Pateeswarar Temple is a hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Perur, in western part of Coimbatore. The temple was built by Karikaala Chozhan and is located 7 km west of the Noyyal River. The mysticism of this temple has also been patronized by poets like Arunagiri Nathar and Kachiappa Munivar.
SIRUVANI WATERFALLS Situated at the western side of Coimbatore at around 35 kms. from Anaikatti, Siruvani waterfalls is a sight to behold. The Siruvani dam was built for Tamil Nadu by the Kerala government to meet the drinking water requirements of Coimbatore.
THE REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE OF COIMBATORE Developed by National Council of Science Museums with the active support of Tamil Nadu Science & Technology Centre, this one was built over an area of 4 sq. kms. at Coimbatore. Featuring ‘Hall of Textile’, ‘3D Film show’, ‘Inflatable Dome Planeterium’ and ‘Children’s Activity Corner’ - this site is a great hotspot to take your kids.
G.D. NAIDU MUSEUM OF INDIAN INVENTIONS Credited as the ‘Edison of India’, Gopalaswamy Doraiswamy Naidu was an Indian inventor and engineer who also built the first electric motor in India. The museum, located at around 45 kms. from the resort, displays models of his inventions along with a library with a vast collection of scientific titles.
ANAMUDI SHOLA NATIONAL PARK At around 130 kms. from Anaikatti, Anamudi Shola National Park is a home for rare species of flora and fauna. Located along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of the state of Kerala, you can catch a glimpse of Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Indian Bison, Nilgiri tahr, Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Giant Grizzled Squirrel, Hanuman Langur, Sloth Bear and many other animals.
KODIVERI FALLS At a distance of 75 Kms from Coimbatore and 70 Kms from Erode, Kodiveri Dam & Waterfalls is a wonderful picnic spot constructed on Bhavani River. The Waterfalls formed by the downstream of Kodiveri Dam is a wonderful spot with nice views of the falls (close to the dam). Since the falls are not heavy, anyone can easily reach bottom of the falls and enjoy. Bathing & swimming in the pool at bottom of the falls is a memorable experience.
PARAMBIKULAM TIGER RESERVE Home to indigeneous tribes, this wildlife sanctuary is located at around 95 kms. from the resort at Anaikatti. People from tribal colonies inside the reserve are engaged as guides for treks and safaris, and are provided employment through various eco-tourism initiatives.
SHOPPING AT RAJA STREET At around 28 kms. drive from the resort at Anaikatti, This market was established in 17th century which attracts plenty of window shoppers and shopping enthusiasts. Raja Street, Oppanakkara Street and Rangegowder Street is the business hub for shopping textile, fabrics, ornament, artefacts, stationeries, books, decorative materials, household products, electricals and electronics.
SILENT VALLEY NATIONAL PARK Located 130kms from Anaikatti, The Silent Valley is the largest national park in Kerala and its part of The Nilgiri Sub-Cluster (6,000+ km2), Western Ghats World Heritage Site, recognised by UNESCO in 2007.Extremely fragile, a unique preserve of tropical evergreen rain forests which is a veritable nursery of flora and fauna, some of which are found nowhere else in the world.
Silent Valley National Park will be closed from 19th Feb17 for the next two months; maybe even extending to three. This is as per the government’s directive to prevent forest fires.
