One of the best things about Delhi is that you are just a day\u2019s drive away from the Himalayas. You are so close so many breathtaking North Indian hill stations<\/a> that taking an impulsive road trip<\/a> is almost mandatory.<\/p>\n

Kufri is one such mesmerising destination, which is about 20 km from Simla and about 350 km from Delhi. You can cover this distance in about eight hours, as the roads are great. If you leave early in the morning, then you can plan to be in Kufri for a late lunch and then can spend the rest of the day relaxing in the resort – or alternatively, you can go exploring sights along the road and spend the whole day to get to Kufri.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Enroute to Kufri <\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>You exit Delhi, cross Panipat, Karnal and Kurukshetra to get to Chandigarh. All these places have a lot of interesting points which are worth exploring.<\/p>\n

The Historic Panipat<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Panipat was the site of three major historical battles, which changed the course of Indian history completely. The 1st battle of Panipat between Babar and Ibrahim Lodi marked the entry of the Mughals into India, the second battle between Akbar and Hemu made the Mughals the masters of Hindustan, and the 3rd battle between the Marathas and Ahmed Shah Abdali, marked the decline of the Marathas and the eventual rise of the British.<\/p>\n

Panipat museum is dedicated to showcasing the history of these events that had such an impact, and you can see many exhibits of weapons, pictures and history here. There are a lot of other monuments of historical interest – Hemu\u2019s Samadhi sthal, Ibrahim Lodi\u2019s tomb and Kala amb – the memorial to the Maratha forces.<\/p>\n

The mythical Kurukshetra<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kurukshetra is the site of the legendary Mahabharat War and there are a number of places which have been developed with this theme – the Sri Krishna museum, the Bhishma Sarovar, and the Kurukshetra panorama and science centre. There is the famous lake of Brahma Sarovar, which is said to be where Duryodhana tried to hide after the war – and there is a large bronze chariot in the middle of the lake. Lakhs of people bathe here on the occasion of Somavati Amavasya.<\/p>\n

Chandigarh, the architectural marvel<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After Kurukshetra, you can visit the beautiful Chandigarh. Chandigarh is one of the well-planned cities in India and is known for its architecture, Le Corbusier buildings, the famous Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake.<\/p>\n

The Scenic Chandigarh-Simla Road<\/strong><\/h2>\n

From Chandigarh, you take the Chandigarh-Shimla Road, which is a beautiful four lane toll road. While driving to Kufri, you can either pass through Shimla or alternatively opt to drive through Chail, which is a scenic and less crowded route.<\/p>\n
