Last weekend, we packed our bags and headed to Lonavala with zero expectations. Just four family members, some snacks, and a hope that the kids wouldn’t fight in the car for two hours straight. What we got instead was three days of pure magic that reminded us why sometimes the best family vacations are the unplanned ones.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Picture this: you wake up to windows completely fogged over, the sound of gentle rain, and your teenager actually putting their phone down to look outside. That’s exactly what happened on our first morning at Sterling, and honestly, it set the tone for everything that followed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 1: Getting Lost in the Clouds<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The drive up was already an adventure. We climbed higher, watching the landscape transform from city chaos to green hills wrapped in mist. Our first stop wasn’t planned \u2013 we just saw a bunch of cars pulled over and followed the crowd.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There it was: a roadside vendor with the most amazing corn on the cob we’d ever tasted. Hot butter melting over perfectly grilled kernels while rain drizzled around us. The kids declared it better than any fancy restaurant meal, and you know what? They were right.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Khandala Point became our afternoon destination, though “point” is generous when you can barely see ten feet ahead. The fog was so thick we could have been standing anywhere, but somehow that made it more exciting. Following a narrow trail, we suddenly heard it \u2013 the sound of rushing water. Around the bend appeared this gorgeous waterfall that definitely wasn’t there the week before. Later, we drove to Pawna Lake, though “lake” was more like “expanded puddle” given all the rain. But the campsite nearby was buzzing with families just like us, all escaping the city for a few days. Here’s what nobody tells you about Lonavala during monsoon: it’s not about the destinations you hit or the photos you take. It’s about your family huddled together under one umbrella, laughing about being completely soaked. The drive back home was quiet \u2013 the good kind of quiet. Everyone was tired but happy, already planning when we could come back.
