Alleppey is one of those places that people don\u2019t just visit they experience. Most of us already know it for the backwaters, houseboats, and that slow, peaceful vibe you don\u2019t really find in many places anymore. Especially when you\u2019re travelling with family, Alleppey feels like the kind of destination where you don\u2019t need a tight plan. You just spend time together, sit by the water, and let the day go on its own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s exactly how it felt for us.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We weren\u2019t rushing anywhere. No checklist, no \u201cmust-cover\u201d spots. Just being there itself felt enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we reached Sterling Lake Palace, the first thing that stood out was how close everything felt to the water. The backwaters weren\u2019t just something you see from a distance they\u2019re right there, almost part of your stay. Boats moving slowly, reflections on the water, and that quiet atmosphere where nothing feels rushed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And naturally, when your stay feels like this, your food experience also starts to matter in a different way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s\u00a0how we ended up at Lake Side Pavilion<\/a> at Sterling Lake Palace Alleppey<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, we didn\u2019t overthink it. It just felt like the right place to sit and eat after spending time around the backwaters. And the moment we walked in, it didn\u2019t feel like a separate restaurant. It felt like a continuation of everything we were already experiencing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The view plays a big role here. You\u2019re still looking at the water, still connected to that backwater feeling. It doesn\u2019t feel like you\u2019ve stepped away from it. If anything, it just becomes quieter, more relaxed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambience in Lake Side Pavilion<\/a> at Sterling Lake Palace Alleppey<\/a><\/strong> is simple, but\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0what\u00a0works.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not trying too hard to impress.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0comfortable, open, and perfect for families to just sit together without feeling like they need to finish quickly and leave.\u00a0We actually ended up sitting longer than we planned, not because of the food delay or anything\u2014but because it just felt good to stay there.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we got the menu, one thing that stood out immediately was the variety. It\u2019s not just Kerala food. There\u2019s a mix of everything\u2014Oriental, Continental, Indian, and more. So even if you\u2019re travelling with people who don\u2019t want to experiment too much, there\u2019s enough to keep everyone happy.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But being in Alleppey, it just felt wrong not to try the local food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that\u2019s where the experience really started to change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went for dishes like Karimeen Pollichathu, which is something you almost have to try when you\u2019re here. Wrapped in banana leaf and cooked with spices, it had that deep, slightly smoky flavour that feels very authentic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there was Prawns Ularthu. This one stood out in a different way. You can actually taste the coconut in it\u2014not in an overpowering way, but just enough to remind you that you\u2019re in Kerala. The coconut oil flavour, the spices, everything just comes together in a way that feels local and real. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Alleppey Fish Curry had a completely different profile slightly tangy, a bit spicy, and something that feels very traditional. It\u2019s not made to suit everyone\u2019s taste, and that\u2019s what makes it good. It feels like it belongs here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also tried Squid Ularthiyathu, which again had that same coconut-based flavour, and even something like Nadan Kozhi Curry brought in a familiar comfort with a local touch.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I liked was that the food didn\u2019t feel adjusted or toned down. It felt honest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, for anyone who didn\u2019t want seafood, there were enough options from biryanis to global dishes to make sure no one felt limited. And that\u2019s important when you\u2019re travelling with family, because everyone wants something different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service in Lake Side Pavilion<\/a><\/strong>  also added to the experience without making it feel formal. It was smooth, relaxed, and didn\u2019t interrupt the flow. No rushing, no unnecessary delays just the right balance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At some point, we stopped focusing on the food alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It became more about the whole setting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The water, the breeze, the slow pace, the conversation at the table it all just blended together. And that\u2019s when you realise this isn\u2019t just about eating at a restaurant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s about where you are. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back, this is what Alleppey really feels like. Not just the houseboats or the backwaters, but these small moments where everything comes together without you trying too hard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meal didn\u2019t feel like a separate part of the trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It felt like part of the destination itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
