Some trips are planned months in advance. Others begin with a simple thought: \u201cWe really need a break.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our trip to Gangtok with my school friend was exactly that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wanted to escape our usual routine and spend a few days somewhere the air felt cooler, the roads more adventurous and every turn promised a new view. Gangtok seemed to have everything we were looking for\u2014mountains, colourful streets, local food, peaceful monasteries and plenty of little experiences waiting to be discovered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what made the trip special wasn’t just the places we visited. It was everything we discovered along the way.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Stay at <\/strong>Sterling Mount Olive Gangtok<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a day of winding mountain roads and exploring Gangtok, there was something incredibly comforting about knowing we had a peaceful place to return to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stayed at Sterling Mount Olive Gangtok<\/a><\/strong>, and the resort became an important part of our experience. It gave us the comfort we needed after long days of sightseeing while still keeping us excited to step out and explore again the next morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing that stood out throughout our stay was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind, friendly and genuinely helpful<\/strong>. Whether they were helping us with something we needed or simply greeting us with a smile, their warmth made the stay feel personal and welcoming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then there was the food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resort’s restaurant, Latitude 27<\/strong>, became one of our favourite parts of the stay. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there. Breakfast was the perfect start to our sightseeing days, while dinner became something we genuinely looked forward to after being out all day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One evening, we tried the slow-cooked beef ragu fettuccine with Parmesan<\/strong>. It was rich, comforting and exactly the kind of meal we wanted after a long day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there was another dish that made the dinner even more memorable\u2014the Wagyu Tomahawk<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And honestly, this was one of those meals where we stopped talking for a few minutes and just enjoyed the food.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having delicious food within the resort made everything easier. We could spend our days exploring and return in the evening to a comfortable space, a good meal and a chance to simply relax. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring MG Marg<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there is one place that instantly captures the energy of Gangtok, it has to be MG Marg<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lively pedestrian street was filled with shops, caf\u00e9s, people and the unmistakable charm of the city. We spent time walking around, clicking pictures, browsing stores and simply taking in the atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ended up buying souvenirs from MUMUSO at MG Marg<\/strong>, which became one of my favourite little shopping stops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also explored local shops selling handicrafts, woollens, tea, spices and traditional Sikkimese souvenirs. From colourful little keepsakes to local products, there was always something interesting to look at. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funny thing about exploring a place like Gangtok is that you can start with a plan and still end up discovering your favourite memories somewhere you never expected.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discovering Gangtok Through Food<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Gangtok travel experience feels complete without trying its local food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had momos and thukpa<\/strong> during our time in the city, and both were perfect for the cool mountain weather. There was something especially satisfying about having a warm bowl of thukpa after spending hours walking around the streets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also visited Baker’s Caf\u00e9<\/strong> to try churpi<\/strong>, a traditional Himalayan cheese. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying local food became more than just ticking dishes off a list. Each meal gave us another little glimpse into the culture and character of the place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And between momos, thukpa, churpi and our dinners at Latitude 27, food quietly became one of the highlights of our Gangtok adventure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chasing Mountain Adventures<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, we couldn’t come all the way to Gangtok and spend the entire trip in the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest highlights was Tsomgo Lake<\/strong>. The journey itself was an experience, with winding mountain roads, changing landscapes and views that made us want to stop every few minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also made our way to Nathula Pass<\/strong>, where the dramatic mountain scenery and chilly weather made the experience feel completely different from exploring the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And just when we thought the trip couldn’t get any more peaceful, Gangtok gave us two very different experiences\u2014one surrounded by spirituality and the other by nature.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Rumtek Monastery<\/strong>, we found a quieter side of Gangtok. The peaceful surroundings gave us a chance to slow down and simply take everything in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then came Banjhakri Falls<\/strong>, where lush greenery and the sound of flowing water created another beautiful escape from the city’s energy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each place had its own personality, and together they made our trip feel much bigger than just a sightseeing itinerary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Than Just a Trip<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back, it isn’t only the famous places that I remember. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember the chilly mountain breeze, colourful prayer flags, winding roads, little shops, warm bowls of thukpa and endless conversations with a friend I’ve known since school<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember laughing over food, taking too many pictures, getting excited over small souvenirs and enjoying those quiet moments when there was nowhere we needed to be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And naturally, Sterling Mount Olive Gangtok became part of those memories too<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The comfortable stay, good food at Latitude 27 and, most importantly, the kind and helpful staff made our experience easy and enjoyable. After spending our days chasing views and adventures, it was nice to return somewhere that felt comfortable and welcoming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sterling didn’t just give me a place to stay. It gave me a Gangtok experience that I would genuinely love to come back to.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we left, we had photographs on our phones, souvenirs in our bags and countless stories to take home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gangtok gave us the adventure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sterling gave us the comfort.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
