The ruins of Hampi, the once ancient city of Vijayanagar, lie on the southern banks of the Tungabhadra river. Panch Rathas \u2013 Mahabalipuram<\/b><\/h2>\n

Dating back to the 7<\/span>th<\/span> century, the Panch Rathas were carved during the reign of King Mahendravarman I and his son Narasimhavarman I. Each of the five monuments in the Pancha Rathas complex resembles a chariot\u00a0and is carved out of a single stone. They are brilliant specimens of Dravidian monolithic architecture which have been preserved well for the benefit of tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sun Temple \u2013 Konark<\/b><\/h2>\n

This massive temple at Konark in Orissa derives its name from the words\u00a0Kona\u00a0– Corner and\u00a0Arka\u00a0\u2013 Sun. Intricate carvings and sculptures adorn this temple and are dedicated to the Sun God. There are images of animals, foliage, men and warriors on horses along with images of the Sun God. It took 1200 artisans 12 years to complete this architectural marvel.<\/p>\n

Nalanda \u2013 Bihar<\/b><\/h2>\n

Nalanda was a large\u00a0Buddhist\u00a0monastery\u00a0in the ancient kingdom of\u00a0Magadha which is now situated in modern-day\u00a0Bihar. It attracted scholars from all over the world.<\/span> They <\/span>studied\u00a0Buddhist texts as well as the\u00a0Vedas, logic, Sanskrit grammar, medicine and\u00a0Samkhya. Nalanda flourished under the patronage of the\u00a0Gupta Empire\u00a0in the 5th and 6th centuries and is one of the main tourist attractions of Bihar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mysore Palace, Mysore<\/b><\/h2>\n

The historic palace of Mysore was the seat of the famed Wodeyar Maharaja’s of Mysore.\u00a0The original palace was built out of wood in 1897 and burned down which then led to the construction of the current popular Mysore Palace.
