Where the Old World Charm Lingers On

A picture-perfect destination located at the foothills of the Himalayas, Mussoorie is surrounded by the imposing snow-capped Shivalik range and the lush Doon Valley. The story of Mussoorie dates back to 1815, when Captain Fredrick Young of the Gorkha regiment, tried to grow potatoes at his station but with little success. Following the advice of locals, Young shifted the cultivation to the mountains. Enamoured by the lush forests, Young forgot all about potatoes and built a hunting lodge instead! Around 1817, he built a cottage and others from the plains followed suit. Thus Landour was born, which grew into Mussoorie.

While the old world charm of the British Raj lingers on in the architecture of the churches, libraries, hotels and summer palaces, Mussoorie is also a favourite destination for those who love adventure activities such as river rafting, paragliding and fishing. Mussoorie is still the place for fun and frolic, just the way when the British first discovered it.
