A Weekend in Mount Abu: Discover Rajasthan’s Coolest Winter Destination
If you’re searching for the best winter destination in Rajasthan, Mount Abu in January is worth considering. Living in Ahmedabad, we wanted a weekend winter break that ticked a few simple boxes: easy to reach, pleasantly cool, family-friendly, and not overrun with tourists. And Mount Abu delivered on all fronts. As Rajasthan’s only hill station, it offered crisp weather, green landscapes, and a quieter kind of winter escape that many people don’t even know about. Honestly, who knew January in Rajasthan could feel this refreshing?
The drive up those winding roads was part of the experience itself. The air turned noticeably sharper, the views greener, and the kids’ excitement grew with every turn. Mount Abu really does feel like Rajasthan’s best-kept secret, a winter destination that doesn’t get nearly enough attention, yet delivers everything you’d hope for in a getaway.
We stayed at Sterling Mount Abu, and looking back, it was really the best decision we made. The resort was located in a nook of nature and we felt welcomed because the whole atmosphere there was so relaxed. After juggling with the stressful weeks between the school and work, the serene environment and carefully planned spaces provided us with the license to, in fact, slow down. The warm, homely interior was really to be felt not to us only, but equally to the kids, who took their seats without a protest.
Evenings in the resort became our thing to really look forward to. High-tea involving sunset views were outstanding. We sat together and watched the sky changing to gold and orange. The kids worked their way through snacks while we soaked in the quiet; a rare treat on any family holiday, really.
Mornings in Mount Abu have their own understated charm. There’s something refreshing about the way the early light filters through the trees, and the cool air made getting up early feel easy rather than forced. The resort team later suggested us to spent time exploring the green trails around the resort, which quickly became the kids’ favourite part of the entire trip. Safe, scenic, and surrounded by nature, these walks turned into mini-adventures filled with endless questions, giggles, and impromptu leaf-collecting missions.
What was more surprising was that we did not feel pressured in our sightseeing days. At Nakki Lake, the winter breeze made the boat ride even more enjoyable, fewer crowds, calmer atmosphere, just right. There was this one small moment we keep coming back to: watching our kids sit quietly, actually taking in their surroundings. That doesn’t happen often. Another highlight was the visit to the Dilwara Temples. The complex marble sculptures engraved on its walls literally won our hearts, a lovely recollection of how Mount Abu entangles the natural beauty and heritage.
We spent our time at the end of the day at the Sterling Mount Abu where the tranquility of the resort allowed us to relax well. Having spent time on the cold air, it was a relief to go back to those hot interiors and serene atmosphere. It was a revelation to us how well the destination was matched by the stay, neither excessive, nor distracting, but just right enough to make us wanted to escape to Rajasthan in winter.
As our trip wrapped up, one thing became crystal clear: Mount Abu offers a side of Rajasthan most people don’t expect. Cool weather, green hillsides, genuinely quiet moments, and experiences that work beautifully for families, all without the typical winter holiday chaos.
So, if you’re planning a weekend getaway this winter and wondering where to head, consider this as your sign!
