We Didn’t Plan This Meal – But It Turned Out to Be the Most Comfortable One
A simple stop during our first family trip
Travelling as a couple is easy.
But travelling with a toddler is a completely different experience.
This was our daughter’s first proper trip, and from the moment we started planning, we knew one thing—everything had to be thought through carefully. Food, timing, comfort, everything mattered a lot more than usual.
You can’t just walk into any place and hope it works.
At least, that’s what we thought.
A random choice we didn’t think too much about
We were in Yercaud, just spending the day casually, walking around and enjoying the weather. By evening, we reached that point where we needed to find a place to eat.
But nothing was planned.
So we did what most people do—we searched online.
Zing at Sterling Yercaud showed up. The reviews were good, the photos looked nice, and the ambience seemed comfortable.
We didn’t go beyond that.
It was a simple decision, not something we spent too much time on.
Walking in with a small concern
Even after choosing the place, there was still that usual hesitation.
Eating out with a child isn’t always easy. You’re not just thinking about what you want to eat anymore—you’re thinking about what your child can eat, how it will be prepared, and whether the whole experience will be smooth.
But the moment we walked in, things started to feel easier.
The space was calm, not too crowded, and had a relaxed atmosphere. There was a sense of comfort that you notice almost immediately. The view added to it—you could sit there and just take a moment without feeling rushed.
And that matters more than you realise when you’re travelling with family.
The kind of care you don’t expect
What stood out the most wasn’t just the ambience.
It was the way the staff handled everything.
We didn’t have to explain things repeatedly. Small requests were understood quickly. There was patience, there was attention, and most importantly, there was a willingness to help without making it feel like a burden.
When you’re travelling with a toddler, even the smallest support feels like a big relief.
Things like helping with customised food, making sure it’s suitable, even assisting with basic requests—it all adds up.
And here, it didn’t feel forced.
It felt natural.
Discovering more than we expected
Once we settled in, we looked at the menu.
Honestly, we weren’t expecting much beyond the usual.
But it turned out to be better than we thought.
There was a good mix of options—global dishes, Indian favourites, and local specialities. It didn’t feel limited, and it didn’t feel confusing either.
It gave us the flexibility to choose what we were comfortable with, while still trying something different.
A mix of comfort and exploration
We ended up ordering a mix of both.
Something familiar, just to stay on the safer side—but also something local to try.
The Chicken Vellai Kurma stood out right away. A white curry made with coconut and cashews, it felt different from the usual dishes we’re used to.
We also ordered Meen Varuval, a traditional fish fry that felt simple but very much connected to the place.
It was a small step, but it made the meal more interesting.
When the meal just feels right
The food turned out to be exactly what we needed.
The Chicken Vellai Kurma was mild, slightly creamy, and very balanced. It didn’t feel heavy, which made it easier to enjoy without worrying too much.
The Meen Varuval was crisp, fresh, and done just right. Not too spicy, not too oily—just simple and satisfying.
But more than the taste, it was the overall ease of the meal that stood out.
We weren’t worried. We weren’t adjusting constantly.
We were just enjoying it.
A place that makes things easier
Looking back, what made this experience special wasn’t just the food.
It was how easy everything felt.
When you’re travelling with family, especially with a child, comfort becomes the most important thing. And comfort doesn’t just come from food—it comes from how the place treats you.
Here, everything just worked.
We didn’t feel rushed, we didn’t feel out of place, and we didn’t have to think too much.
And that’s rare.
More than just a restaurant
Yes, the ambience is good.
Yes, the view adds to the experience.
Yes, the food is worth trying.
But for us, it was more than that.
It was a place where we could just sit, eat, and relax—without worrying about anything else.
Ending note
Not every meal during a trip becomes memorable.
But sometimes, you come across a place that makes everything feel easier, especially when you’re travelling with family.
For us, Zing in Yercaud turned out to be that place.
It wasn’t planned.
