When was the last time you really slowed down with your parents? I don’t mean the rushed video calls or sending flowers online. I’m talking about truly being present and sharing old stories, laughing together, watching the kids run around while they smile the way only grandparents do.

This Parents’ Day on 28th July, we wanted to make it count. So, we packed our bags and took them somewhere special to a quiet trip at Sterling resort tucked away in nature. And honestly? It was the best decision we’ve made in a long time.

Parents’ Day usually sneaks up on us. We scramble for a gift or a cake, but it always feels…incomplete. This time, we wanted to give them something better: our time.

The moment we arrived, everything felt slower, calmer. The kids took off to explore the winding garden paths while my parents settled into comfy chairs, smiling in a way I hadn’t seen in ages. There was no rush to be anywhere. Just us, together, in the middle of green hills and fresh air.

One morning, we went on a guided nature walk. My parents loved it as they could stop as often as they wanted, ask questions about local herbs, listen to legends our guide shared with such joy.

Later, the kids tried their hand at pottery (and made absolute masterpieces in their eyes!). Meanwhile, we sat with my parents over endless cups of tea, chatting about old family stories that even my wife hadn’t heard before.

In the evening, there was a bonfire under the stars. We played our parents’ favourite old songs. Watching them dance slowly to the music was something I’ll carry with me forever.

The food wasn’t just good, it felt personal. Local recipes that had stories behind them, chefs who asked what we liked, little touches to surprise us.

For Parents’ Day, they set up a table on a deck with the most incredible valley view. Nothing flashy. Just simple, beautiful, and thoughtful.

Our kids even made handwritten notes for their grandparents, with a little help from the staff. My mom cried happy tears.

What really stood out was that it didn’t feel like a typical resort stay. It felt like someone reminding us to slow down. To pay attention. To remember why family matters.

When we left, my dad patted my shoulder and said, “We should do this every year.” And you know what? We will.

Because in the end, saying “Thank you, Mom and Dad” isn’t about gifts. It’s about making the time. About showing up.

And this Parents’ Day, in that quiet corner of the world, we really did.

If you’re thinking about what to do for your parents this 28th July, consider skipping the usual. Take them somewhere that feels like home but with fewer chores and more magic. Somewhere like Sterling.
