Celebrate World Lion Day With A Journey Into The Wild
It’s time to celebrate a magnificent creature that calls the Gir National Park its home, Asiatic Lions. The 10th of August is celebrated as International Lion Day every year, to raise awareness about conservation and the protection of their habitat. With climate change and the depletion of forests across the globe, lions are facing the vulnerability of extinction. This day serves as a platform to educate people about the importance of forest conservation, as well as to celebrate the beauty of these royal big cats.
The first Lion Day celebration was by the Big Cat Rescue in 2013, an organisation dedicated to preserving exotic wildcat species that later entered a partnership with National Geographic under a single banner to protect these big cats. To celebrate this day, artists and wildlife photographers put their art on display as a way to bring awareness about the threats faced by lions. Many events are also organised to educate people about the conservation strategies by the various wildlife organisations around the world.
To celebrate World Lion Day 2024, we suggest a weekend trip to Gir National Park. Gir is known to be the home of the Asiatic Lion and is famous as one of the only places outside Africa where one can spot the king of the jungle ruling the wild. As part of the World Lion Day activities, you can plan a safari in the jungles of Gir for a chance to see lions in their natural habitat and understand the efforts being made to protect them.
If you are planning to pay a visit to the Gir Lion, our resort in Sasan Gir is just by the Hiran River. A short drive from the National Park, our property is the perfect base to plan a jungle safari for you and your family. When visiting, be sure to plan a stay at one of our cottages inspired by the Kuba huts of the Kutch communities. You can spend your days spotting the king of the jungles, and your evenings with a walk around our mango orchard.
