It Wasn’t Planned But It Turned Out to Be Exactly What I Needed
Some of the best things don’t really happen as planned.
This trip wasn’t supposed to be anything more than a simple family getaway. We had been talking about it for a long time planning, postponing, and waiting for the right time.
This summer, we finally said yes.
For everyone else, it was just a short trip.
But for me, it felt different.
Because somewhere between long working hours, managing responsibilities at home, constant updates, and trying to balance everything at once, I had reached a point where I didn’t just want a break I needed to step away for a bit.
When You’re Always Managing Something
Most days felt like a routine I didn’t question.
Work during the day. Responsibilities at home after that. Somewhere in between, trying to keep up with everything without really stopping.
It wasn’t one thing that felt overwhelming.
It was everything together.
Even when there was time to rest, my mind didn’t really slow down. There was always something to think about, something to plan, something to get back to.
And slowly, I started feeling like I was always in between things never fully present in one moment.
That’s when I realised maybe what I needed wasn’t just time off.
I needed space.
Why Wayanad?
There’s a reason we chose Wayanad.
I had heard about it a lot during my time working in Kerala how calm it is, how green, how different it feels from the usual rush.
But I never got the chance to visit.
Even after moving to Bengaluru, it stayed in my mind something I wanted to experience someday.
So when this trip finally happened, it felt like the right place at the right time.
The Shift Begins on the Road
The change didn’t start after reaching.
It started during the drive.
As we got closer, everything began to slow down. The roads became quieter, the air cooler, and the rush I was used to slowly faded.
It didn’t feel like I had to force myself to relax.
It just started happening.
In the Middle of Nature
After checking in, one thing stood out immediately.
This didn’t feel like a place near nature.
It felt like we were inside it.
Surrounded by greenery, open spaces, and stillness it was completely different from the routine I had been living.
And without even trying, I started disconnecting from my phone, from constant updates, from that need to always stay on top of things.
For once, I didn’t feel like I had to manage anything.
Something I Didn’t Plan
The wellness experience wasn’t part of the plan.
I had heard about Kerala’s wellness traditions before, but I hadn’t really thought about trying it on this trip.
What changed my mind was something simple.
After spending some time there, I noticed a difference. Things felt lighter. My head felt clearer. There was a certain ease I hadn’t been feeling for a while.
That’s when I thought maybe I should try this too.
Not because I had to.
Just because it felt right.
And that’s how I found myself at Subuthi Spa, the wellness experience at the Sterling Wayanad property where we were staying.
An Experience That Slows You Down
From the moment I stepped in, the first thing I noticed was the aroma.
It was subtle warm, earthy, and calming. Not something overpowering, but something that gently made you slow down.
The space itself felt different. Quiet, unhurried.
The oils used had a natural fragrance herbal, slightly medicinal, but comforting in a way that felt rooted in tradition.
Everything moved slowly.
There was no rush to start or finish. The experience followed its own pace, and without realising it, I found myself adjusting to it.
And somewhere in that, I realised how rarely I allow myself to slow down like this.
Why It Felt Different
What made it different wasn’t just the wellness itself.
It was the fact that I didn’t have to step out of it into chaos.
I stayed in that same calm environment.
There was no rush waiting outside. No immediate responsibilities pulling me back.
So the experience didn’t feel temporary.
It stayed with me through the rest of the day, through the quiet moments, through the stillness of the place.
Even after stepping out, that sense of calm from Subuthi Spa at Sterling Wayanad stayed with me through the rest of the day.
More Than What I Expected
I didn’t come here expecting anything specific.
But somewhere along the way, I noticed something had changed.
I wasn’t constantly thinking about what’s next. I wasn’t mentally juggling multiple things.
I was just present.
And for someone used to balancing work, home, and everything in between that felt new.
A Different Kind of Summer
Back in the city, summer usually feels draining.
But here, it felt different.
The weather was pleasant. The surroundings were refreshing. Even stepping outside felt easy.
It didn’t feel like I had escaped summer.
It felt like I had stepped into a space that allowed me to slow down.
What I Took Back
This wasn’t a trip filled with plans.
But it gave me something I didn’t realise I needed.
A sense of ease.
A clearer head.
A slower rhythm.
And a simple reminder
For once, I didn’t have to balance everything.
I could just be.
Maybe That’s What We All Need
If your days feel like a constant balance between work and everything else, it might not be about doing more.
Sometimes, it’s about stepping away.
Finding a place where you don’t have to manage anything.
Where you don’t have to keep up.
Where you can just pause.
And sometimes, that pause is enough to bring you back to yourself.
