Bungee jumping is certainly not for the faint of heart. However, if you’re an adventure-seeker, it definitely deserves a place at the top of your bucket list. Nothing can quite come close to the experience of free-falling through the air and feel like you can fly. If you have never done it before, then there’s no time like the present! Here are seven tips to help you prepare for your first bungee jumping experience.

Safety First

Make sure that when you go bungee jumping, you choose an experienced and reliable adventure company. You are putting your life in their hands, so you need to be able to trust them completely. This is not the time to be stingy with your money and choose a less professional company just because they’re cheaper. Check the qualifications of your trainers before committing to go bungee jumping with them.

Do Not Overthink It

You might be excited about your first bungee jumping experience, but in the last few seconds, before you jump, all sorts of thoughts and anxieties might get into your head. These fears will end up holding you back from your dream of a lifetime. When you feel nervous thoughts starting to creep in, take a deep breath and let it all out. Just jump without thinking about what could go wrong and you will have an unforgettable experience.

Wear Comfortable Clothes

You can choose to either jump barefoot or in shoes. If you are wearing shoes, they need to be closed shoes not slip-ons, heels or anything that can fall off. Since you will be upside down, clothes like skirts and dresses should be avoided as well. Do not carry anything in your pockets because they will be very likely to fall out.

Choose your backdrop

Bungee jumping will be an experience you will never forget, so make sure you choose a beautiful location for it. Our favourite is over a waterbody like a river or a waterfall. But if that’s not your cup of tea, or if you are afraid of water, you can choose a scenic valley or a mountain range. You can even opt for a famous monument like a sky tower. Pick a terrain that you love and want to remember for the rest of your life.

Medical checkup

Bungee jumping will give you an incredible adrenaline rush, but you need to make sure your body is healthy enough for it. Schedule a checkup with your doctor to make sure you are fit enough to bungee jump. If you are recovering from a minor illness like the flu, your body might still be weak so don’t rush it. Make sure you’re fully recovered to avoid suffering from any issues mid-air. If you have any prior medical condition, especially heart-related, get a go-ahead from your doctor first.

Don’t overeat before the jump

On the day of your bungee jumping plans, try to eat a light meal. If you attempt to bungee jump on an empty stomach, you might feel dizzy or faint. On the other hand, if you eat too much, you might throw up! To avoid both scenarios, make sure you eat just the right amount. Go easy on carbs and liquids, but eat plenty of protein which will keep you full for longer.

Believe in yourself

Nothing can derail your bungee jumping plans like self-doubt can. Keep telling yourself that you can do it! You have dreamed about it for so long and you’re finally making it happen. Just believe in yourself. If you think you need moral support, take a friend along who will not let you quit. If you’re lucky, they might be an equally thrill-seeking friend and will be very happy to jump with you.
