We Went Looking for Adventure… But This Meal Stayed With Us
A day that was never about food
That day in Wayanad was supposed to be all about adventure.
We had planned it that way—start early, cover a couple of activities, keep moving, and just make the most of the place. It was one of those days where you don’t really sit in one place for too long. You’re constantly on the move, ticking things off without even realising how fast the day is going.
Food wasn’t really part of the plan.
At least, not until we started feeling it.
When hunger takes over
By the time we wrapped up our activities, we were completely drained. That mix of tiredness and hunger where you don’t want to spend too much time deciding anything, but you also don’t want to settle for something average.
We didn’t have a place in mind.
So, we did what most people do—we searched nearby and found a place that looked decent enough.
That’s how we ended up at The Tamarind.
First impressions that slow you down
Even before the food, the place itself changes your mood.
After a day filled with movement and noise, stepping into a space that feels calm makes a difference. The surroundings are quiet, the setting feels open, and there’s a certain comfort in the way everything is laid out.
The wooden interiors, the subtle lighting, and the view around it all come together without trying too hard. It’s not loud or overdone. It just feels right.
Honestly, I’d easily rate the ambience and the overall surroundings a 10/10.
It’s the kind of place where you don’t just come to eat—you come to sit, relax, and take a break from everything else.
And yes, it feels like a place you could bring someone for a quiet date.
Starting with something familiar
After sitting down, we didn’t want to overthink things.
We started simple—with Paneer Chilli.
After a long day, sometimes you just want something familiar. Something you know won’t go wrong. And this did exactly what it needed to. It was well balanced, nicely cooked, and a good way to ease into the meal.
Nothing is experimental.
Just satisfying.
Taking a small risk with the main course
For the main course, we decided to do something slightly different.
Instead of sticking to our usual choices, we went for a local paneer preparation along with Kerala Parotta.
It wasn’t a random choice.
We knew this could go either way. Local flavours can be very different, and not everything is made to suit every palate. But we still wanted to try it.
Sometimes, it’s worth stepping out of your comfort zone.
A taste that feels different
The dish turned out exactly how we expected—and also not.
It had a strong local flavour, something that clearly belonged to the region. It wasn’t toned down or adjusted. It felt authentic, and that’s what made it interesting.
But at the same time, it’s not something that will work for everyone.
And that’s important to say.
If you’re someone who prefers familiar, predictable flavours, this might feel a little different. But if you’re open to trying something local, it adds a completely new layer to the experience.
For us, it was worth taking that risk.
The part that made it easier
What really made the experience better was the service.
After a long day, you don’t want to deal with delays or confusion. You just want things to be smooth and easy.
And that’s exactly how it felt here.
The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Things moved at the right pace. There was no rush, but there was also no unnecessary waiting.
It just felt comfortable.
Small gestures that stay with you
Sometimes, it’s the smallest thing that leaves an impression.
Like ending the meal with complimentary ice cream.
It’s a simple gesture, nothing big—but after a long, tiring day, it felt like the perfect way to wrap things up.
Unexpected, but appreciated.
More than just a random stop
Looking back, this wasn’t just about food.
We didn’t come here with expectations. We didn’t plan this stop. It was just something we found at the moment.
But sometimes, those are the experiences that stay with you the most.
A place where you can relax after a long day, try something different, and just enjoy the moment without overthinking it.
Ending note
Wayanad is known for its nature, its views, and its experiences.
But somewhere between all that, you come across moments like this.
Unplanned. Simple. But memorable.
For us, The Tamarind turned out to be one of those moments.
Not because everything was perfect.
