Best Time to Visit
Summer (March – June)
Summer in Gir is hot, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 42°C, but it is an excellent time for lion sightings as animals gather around the forest’s waterholes. Gir National Park stays open until mid-June.
Monsoon (Mid-June – September)
During the monsoon season, Gir National Park closes for the annual breeding season, roughly from 16 June to 15 October, and the countryside turns lush and green. Devalia Safari Park, however, stays open year-round for wildlife viewing.
Winter (October – February)
Winter is the best time to visit Sasan Gir, with pleasant temperatures between 10°C and 30°C. The comfortable weather is ideal for jeep safaris, birdwatching, and sightseeing, with the National Park reopening in mid-October.
December to March is the peak safari season, so book your Gir National Park permits well in advance. When permits are limited or during the monsoon closure, the year-round Devalia Safari Park is a reliable alternative for spotting lions.
