Best Time to Visit
Summer (March – June)
Temperatures sit between roughly 28°C and 38°C, warm and increasingly humid as the season builds toward the monsoon. Mornings and evenings stay pleasant enough for a riverside walk, but midday heat can make the trek to Athirapilly Falls a sweatier outing.
Monsoon (July – September)
This is arguably the best time to visit Athirapilly for the falls themselves, since heavy rain pushes the Athirapilly and Vazhachal waterfalls to a scale locals compare to Niagara. The trade-off is slippery trails and occasional access restrictions during the heaviest downpours, so monsoon travel to Kerala here rewards a bit of flexibility.
Winter (October – February)
Cooler and considerably less humid, with temperatures easing toward 28°C by December, this stretch is the most comfortable for outdoor activities like trekking, birdwatching and river fishing without fighting the heat or the rain.
Choose the monsoon season if the waterfalls at full force are the priority, or October to February if comfortable trekking and birdwatching matter more than dramatic water flow. Either way, check trail access with the resort before setting out, since forest department restrictions can change with the weather.
