Summer in Jawai is intense, with temperatures climbing to 35°C to 45°C. Leopards remain active at dawn and dusk, and the heat draws large flocks of birds, including sarus cranes, to the region's waterholes.
Monsoon (July – September)
The monsoon season brings moderate rainfall and turns Bera's granite hills a rare shade of green. Road conditions can be less reliable during this period, making it the least recommended window for a safari trip.
Winter (October – February)
Winter is the best time for a Jawai leopard safari, with daytime temperatures between 10°C and 25°C and leopard sighting rates reported above 80%. Jawai Dam also draws over 200 migratory bird species during these months, including flamingos and demoiselle cranes.
For the best odds of a leopard sighting in Jawai, plan safari drives around dawn and dusk regardless of season, and book well ahead for the October to February peak. Nights can turn surprisingly cold in winter, so pack warm layers even for a desert destination.
