Bollywood deja vu

To drive to the twin hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala, is to drive into a film set. One of the most popular locations for Bollywood films, almost every dam and waterfall here has served as a backdrop for a romantic song. Lonavala has a reel life like no other; while other hill stations have sunrise and sunset points, Lonavala has shooting spots.

The best way to revisit a Bollywood scene is to tour the hills with a local.

The lake, the bridge across it, Lion's Point, Duke's Nose - an accompanying local is likely to point out star sites along with the name of the film, the actors and often, the year. A tour of the three dams - Bushi, Valvan and Tungarli- is enough to trigger a sense of déjà vu. Many a popular scene from Bollywood has been shot here.

Bollywood's fixation with these hill stations has spilled over to the small screen too. The bungalow, which houses the contestants of Big Boss, the Indian equivalent of Big Brother, is also at Lonavala.
