Here’s a short summary, covering all the important points you should know about this policy you buy on booking your travel with Sterling Holidays. Before we begin, you should know that for making a claim, all you need to do, is call us at 1800-300-34448 and we will guide you through. And as everything is digital, we won’t ask for hard copies of bills or proofs. Everything can be sent as a soft copy.

 

Trip Cancellation

What is Covered

  • You get a refund for the losses you suffer when you cancel your trip including your non-refundable air tickets and hotel bookings.
  • Maximum refund is ₹ 10,000.
  • Cancellation can be due to an unfortunate incident with you or any of the people travelling with you, like, an emergency hospitalization or death, summon by a judicial authority, natural disaster, riot in your departure or arrival destination or Govt.’s advisory not to travel.

 

What is not Covered

  • Hospitalization due to a disease or condition you had before booking the trip.
  • Any other loss due to cancellation, e.g. Missing a meeting resulting in monetary loss, won’t be covered.
  • If cancellation is done by the airline or Sterling, we will not refund the flight ticket or hotel booking charges.
  • You will be refunded by the airline or Sterling themselves

Delay in checked-in Baggage

What is Covered

  • Flight was on time but baggage took ages to come? You get ₹2,000 if the arrival of your Checked-In Baggage is delayed by  more than 6 hours.

What is not Covered

  • Delay due to any detention or checking of baggage by public authorities. 
  • Example: If your bag gets checked by the customs and that causes the delay.

Soft Copies needed for Claim

  • Baggage tag receipts, receipts that are stuck to your boarding pass.
  • Baggage delay confirmation from the airline.

Total loss of checked-in baggage

What is Covered

  • Packed up your best for the trip, only to lose it? We can’t get all your stuff back but we can give you₹10,000, if you permanently lose your baggage. 
  • You can claim a benefit on pro-rata basis. e.g. if you checked-in three bags and one was lost, we will pay you one-third of the  ₹10,000 of this cover as specified in the policy schedule.

What is not Covered

  • This will only apply if the entire bag is lost

Soft Copies needed for Claim

  • Baggage tag receipts.
  • While taking your boarding pass, always check if the staff has attached your checked-in bag receipt.
  • Report from airline about the loss.

Loss of baggage and personal belongings

What is Covered

  • You carry expensive stuff while on a travel, say a luxury bag or a camera. In case it is stolen, we compensate you for the same.
  • The maximum amount we can compensate for is ₹25,000

What is not Covered

  • This doesn’t cover things like credit cards, ATM cards, jewellery, passports, money or any other currency.

Soft Copies needed for Claim

  • FIR of the loss to be filed within 24 hours of the incident.

Missed connection

What is Covered

  • You get a maximum of ₹10,000 if you miss a connecting flight due to a delay in your previous flight.

What is not Covered

  • Time gap less than 3 hours between the scheduled arrival of incoming flight and scheduled departure of connecting flight is not covered.

Accidental death & disability (Common Carrier)

What is Covered

  • If you have an accident while you are boarding, de-boarding or are on the flight and it results in disability or death, we will compensate your nominee as detailed below.
  • The maximum amount is ₹3,00,000.
  • And this also compensates in case there is a disappearance of the traveller due to a forced landing of the flight.

What is not Covered

  • This doesn’t reimburse any hospital bills.

Personal Accident

What is Covered

  • If you have an accident during your trip and it results into a disability or death, we pay you or your nominee a certain amount of money as compensation.
  • The maximum amount is ₹3,00,000.

What is not Covered

  • This doesn’t reimburse any hospital bills.

Emergency accidental treatment and evacuation

What is Covered

  • This benefit refunds your hospital bills for any emergency treatment due to an accident during your trip.
  • Maximum refund can be ₹1,50,000.
  • For OPD (Out patient deptt.) bills, Maximum reimbursement amount is ₹15,000. 
  • OPD includes medical consultations, expert opinions and allied consultations like physiotherapy.

What is not Covered

  • Cost of any non-emergency treatment like tests that are not related to your injury.
  • Plastic or cosmetic surgery unless needed as a medical emergency

Soft Copies needed for Claim

  • Hospital bills.
  • FIR in case of any road accident.

Personal Liability & Bail Bond

What is Covered

  • If due to an unfortunate incident, there are any legal charges against you while you are on the trip, we can cover you for a maximum of ₹1,00,000

What is not Covered

  • The incident should have occurred during your travel only.
  • The loss could include instances like death or disability of an injured person or damage to a third party’s property including any property you have rented for your travel .
  • The third party should have sued you during or at max 60 days after your travel.

  • Copy of Court award or order, and the bail  bond submitted.

What kind of insurance is being offered? What are the covers?

This is a Holiday Insurance for all Sterling customers. It is provided by Sterling and powered by Go Digit General Insurance ("Digit"). The covers include emergency accidental hospitalisation, personal accident, trip cancellation, delay in checked-in baggage, loss of baggage and personal belongings etc., in short most of where your trip could have a hiccup.

 

Why do I need this? What's the use?

You're going for a holiday to have some fun and that's exactly what this lets you have. This holiday insurance cover is for all Sterling customers. And guess what, it's complimentary!

 

Who is Digit?

Digit is a general insurance company, founded by Kamesh Goyal and backed by Fairfax Group, which is one of the largest financial services groups in the world. As a company it believes in 'Making Insurance Simple'. And for that it has made policies very simple to understand with no hidden terms and conditions. Its products are relevant to people's needs and its claims process is easy and convenient with no hard copies needed.

 

Is it for all travellers or just primary guest who makes the booking?

Yes, it is for all. But make sure you share the information on all accompanying travellers. If not shared, some restrictions may apply.

 

Why are they asking for accompanying guest details?

To provide a full cover, Digit needs details of accompanying guests.

 

Is there an age limit for the cover?

We cover up to the age of 99 years.

 

Is the cover only valid while I am at your resort? What is the start time and end time of the cover?

The cover starts from the midnight of your check-in date and is valid until the midnight of your check-out date

 

I have to change my travel date, will I still get an insurance cover?

Absolutely! As soon as we receive information of your modified booking, we will issue a new certificate of insurance. This will be as per the revised date of travel.

 

What if I don't share the details for the accompanying guests ?

For un-named person/s, coverage is restricted to the time when they are within the premises of the resort only for Accidental, OPD (Out Patient Department), Personal Accident covers.

 

What is covered under trip cancellation cover under this policy?

You get a reimbursement for the losses you suffer when you cancel your trip including air ticket and non-refundable hotels. Maximum reimbursement is Rs. 10,000/-. If there is hospitalisation arising out of cardiac arrest, will this insurance pay?

We cover only accidents, so this won't be covered.

 

What is the benefit under personal accident?

We will compensate you or your nominee upto 3 lakhs in case of death, permanent total disability or permanent partial disability, due to an accident while you are traveling.

Who do I contact in the event of a claim? How do I make a claim?

You simply have to call Digit at 1800-300-34448.

I am a member of Sterling. How will you compensate me in the event of a trip cancellation for the nights lost on my timeshare model?

In the event of trip cancellation due to unfortunate incidents death/ hospitalisation of self/spouse/parents/children, we will reimburse you for the cost that the resort would have charged a non-member for the same period. This is provided the resort has not reinstated the nights lost post your cancellation request which is subject to the Sterling's cancellation Policy.

Delay of Checked in Baggage

  • Baggage tag receipts.
  • Written confirmation from the carrier stating the number of hours customer was without baggage.

Trip Cancellation

  • If the reason for cancellation is medical, customer will need to produce a medical certificate from the medical practitioner attending the patient. This must confirm the reason and need of cancellation. Hospitalization records (a discharge summary) will do, too.
  • Death certificate (where applicable)
  • Copy of cancellation proof of booked tickets
  • Copy of booking as well as cancellation confirmation from hotel/planned events organize

Personal Liability and Bail bond

  • Proof of payment towards incurred expenses
  • Copy of Court award or order, and the bail bond submitted
  • FIR - First Information Report (If third party involvement)

Missed Flight Connection

  • Written confirmation from the carrier of the number of hours of delay, and any compensation received towards the delay.
  • Details of Alternate travel arrangements offered by the carrier, however not accepted.

Loss of Checked-in Baggage

  • A Property Irregularity Report. This should be obtained from the carrier as soon as customer is aware of the damage or loss of baggage.
  • Baggage tag receipts.

Loss Of Baggage And Personal Belongings

  • FIR - First Information Report (if third party involvement)

 

What is the Turn Around Time (TAT) for claim settlement?

If all documents received are in order, Digit will settle the claim within 6 business hours. If not, we will get back to you with questions/clarifications.

Can I make multiple claims? For example, personal accident and delay of checked-in baggage
