Tiger Leap: Head into the Clouds

The Tiger's Leap gets its name from a rock formation which looks like a tiger leaping out. This spot is a favourite with those who want to sit awhile with friends and family amidst mist-kissed hills.

Tiger Leap: Head into the Clouds

Lonavala becomes a lush green, misty paradise during monsoons; there are many takers for its dewy charm.

An area, about 20 minutes away from Lonavala, is particularly beautiful during the monsoons. It is called Tiger Leap. The place gets its name from a rock formation in the area, which looks like the big cat is about to jump into the valley below.

The drive up to this point is very enjoyable but the changing visibility can be a challenge. The mist has a mind of its own and rolls in and out of its own volition.  It lifts occasionally to reveal the landscape: verdant hills, silvery waterfalls and a mist-kissed valley below.  The feeling is akin to floating on a cloud and looking down at creation. There are numerous birds to be found in the area as well. Birdwatchers would do well to carry a pair of binoculars.

A few hawkers nearby provide just the right dash of heat to the somewhat cold environs. One can get platefuls of crisp corn cakes, onion fritters, steaming plates of the ubiquitous Maggie and cups of scalding tea. Those who want to lounge around a bit more, can carry their own hampers and spend a few hours in good company.
