Yelagiri: The Bicycle Diaries

A nature lover living in a crowded city must feel like a caged animal living in a zoo. No matter how large the cage or how pretty its surroundings, the existence is limiting.

However for those in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Yelagiri is one of those destinations that can take one far away from the bindings of a city. The rolling green hills and the murmurs of the wind provide the much-needed respite from the crowd and clamour.

The sleepy town with its lazy, winding streets and eucalyptus-kissed breeze is a great destination for cyclists. There's very little traffic on the roads which makes it much safer to cycle here than in cities. Those given to taking the road less travelled can also opt for the hilly trails rather than the sedate and level ones.

Cycles are available for hire at the Sterling resort. Those planning for a longer ride need to carry sufficient water and some food because shops are not easily found on these remote roads.

The roads in Yelagiri, belong to a simpler time, when people did not need much.
