Sunset Point: Trek the Road Less Travelled

A short drive from the Sterling resort is an inconspicuous trail that leads into the forest. It is a quick kilometre trek to the top of a small hillock in the Yelagiri Forest area, locally referred to as the Sunset Point.

Initially, the walk is easy but gets rockier towards the end. Over all it is an easy climb, but not recommended for those suffering from back pain. The forest is thick with tall Eucalyptus trees and several medicinal herbs especially Citronella.  Bears have been sighted in the area as also deer, rabbits and snakes.

Since the weather in Yelagiri gets chilly in the evenings, it's a good idea to carry a warm article of clothing.  Shorts should be avoided on this trail since there are many dry and thorny bushes along the way.

From atop the hillock, one can see the hamlet of Ponneri – its speck-like huts appearing like little toys against the backdrop of the orange-smeared sky. It is the kind of view that often lies at the end of a road less travelled.
