Tagore Beach: A Writer’s Muse
The long stretches of these golden sands inspired Rabindranath Tagore.
The moniker, Tagore Beach, is a fitting one for the Karwar beach. It is said that the noble poet visited Karwar when his brother was the district judge here. On seeing the beach, he remarked that the place put one in immediate touch with the immensity of beauty.
The long stretches of golden sands offer perfect spots to marvel at Nature’s wonders. The soft sand and the generous sun make it an ideal destination for eager sunbathers. For those who love the waters, it is an excellent place to swim, as the waterbed has no sudden dips. The river Kali joins the Arabian Sea at the end of the beach and watching the sunset from the bridge is truly a memorable experience.
A recreational park, a colourful music fountain, a toy train, a planetarium and an aquarium add to the beach’s attraction. For adventure seekers, activities like fishing, boating, snorkelling and kayaking are available. The beach is also famous for seafood dishes and a must-try among them is the Karwar fish curry.
Just like Tagore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the beauty of the Karwar beach inspires one to write poetry.
