HOME DESTINATIONS Munnar
Sunrise Point: Breathtaking Daybreak
The spot has been named Sunrise Point for good reasons. The sun puts on a spectacular show every morning as it rises amidst the gigantic mountains of the Idukki range.
For those bitten by the travel bug, it’s never too early or too hard to gather at Sunrise Point before dawn to witness the birth of a new day.
As the sun rises above a sea of mist, the surrounding mountains look even more majestic with the first rays lighting up their peaks. On rare days when there is no mist, there is a vertigo-inducing view of the valley and the cities far, far below.
Breathing in the fresh, crisp air and taking in the astounding beauty, makes the effort worthwhile. And an effort it is, even for those who prefer to avoid the arduous trek to Sunrise Point. An early start is imperative for everyone, even for those planning to drive instead of trek. It takes an hour to drive to the base of Kolukkumalai from the resort.
The sun rises at 6:30am and the best moments occur within the first 15 minutes of daybreak. It is likely to be cold this early in the morning and visitors are advised to dress warmly, especially if vulnerable to coughs and colds.
