The farmers in the region are completely dependent on the water from the dam for irrigation purpose. An easy day trip from Madurai, the dam is a hotspot for families looking to take a break on the weekend. The views from on top of the dam are unparalleled. There is a small beautiful garden on both sides of the Vaigai Dam called Little Brindavan that is connected by a small bridge. With a children’s park, mini train and pedal boating, this place is very popular with young children. On Sundays the dam is illuminated and makes for a beautiful sight. One can also catch the musical dancing fountain in the evenings on weekends.
